Happy summer, Smart Music, and more...
Dear Student Musicians and Parents,
I hope you are enjoying a relaxing summer. If you need help with Smart Music or anything else musical, I am available:
June 29 to July 10 and July 17 to July 23. After that, i will be involved in the Lafayette Summer Music Workshop (lafsmw.org) and will return to be at Stanley full time on August 16.
The Stanley Music Calendar for 2017-2018 will be posted by July 4.
The first performance of the year will be on Sunday, September 17 from 11am to 12:30pm, and includes the Stanley Chorus and select Stanley Jazz Musicians performing with Bob Athayde and Friends at the Fiesta Stage of the Lafayette Art and Wine Festival. This is a volunteer performance for the students. Those who participated two years really enjoyed it.
On October 1 and 2, The Airmen of Note (the #1 Jazz Band of the U.S. Air Force) will give two free days of clinics and concerts at El Cerrito H.S.(4pm on 10/1) and Chabot College (7:30pm on 10/2. These clinics and concerts are free, but have limited seating. Their vocalist, Paige, reminds me of Ella Fitzgerald. She and the other members of the band will perform and teach us how to play and sing better. As you can hear on these YouTubes, they are many of the best players in the world. The Airmen's Lead Trumpet Player, Brian MacDonald is considered one of the top three lead players in the world. Three years ago, at the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival, I heard the Airmen. They were unbelievable. Last week, I met with three of them at El Cerrito H.S. They were setting up the tour.
One of the new activities that Stanley Music will offer is a Flute Choir. At this time, we are trying to obtain funding for an Alto Flute and a Bass Flute. Mrs. Martha Uhey will volunteer her time once a week for all of the flutes in each band. She is an expert in this area. This is a very exciting development.
Again, if I can help you in any way, please contact me by e-mail. If, for some reason, this e-mail doesn't work, please use email@example.com.
