Last Week and This Week @ Stanley Music
Tuesday, April 18, The Air Force Band of The Golden West sent their Jazz Quartet to play with and for the Stanley Jazz Messengers and the Bands during the school day. They are not only fabulous players, but wonderful Music Educators! Thanks to all who attended the before school session!
Thursday, April 20 - Congratulations to the forty students who participated in the Solo Ensemble Concert. With the help of their LPIE Instructors, they not only prepared during class, but rehearsed on their own time to make this a memorable night. Although they were not part of the STEAM EXPO, the STANLEY CHAMBER MUSICIANS certainly put the A in STEAM. Go Wildcat Musicians!
Saturday, April 22, 8:40am to 12:20pm - The Stanley Chorus earned three SUPERIOR ratings at the California Music Educators Association Festival at Liberty H.S. in Brentwood. Three adjudicators listened, made comments, and rated the Chorus 84, 88, and 88 points out of 100. One of them gave us a clinic. By the end of the clinic, the CHORUS earned a COMMAND PERFORMANCE, the highest rating for any middle school chorus. Thank you to LPIE for providing coaching by Ms. Xiomara DiMaio. Her weekly lessons with the Stanley Chorus have helped us tremendously. For almost an hour before we performed, we received a special coaching session and warm-up with Mr. Chris Jackson (Andre's father and a member of the San Francisco Opera Chorus). That put us over the top! Special thanks to Landon Plummer's parents for the treats at the end! Thanks to all of the parents and family members who attended.
Saturday, April 22, 2pm to 4pm - The Stanley Jazz Messengers, under the direction of LPIE Instructor Mr. Tommy Davidson and Stanley Music Volunteer, Mr. Kerwin Lee, performed outside of he Wayside Thrift Store. It was an important civic event with Mayor Mike Anderson giving one of the important speeches. Everyone enjoyed the Jazz and the free Root beer floats! The Plaza has never swung so much!
Tuesday, April 25 - The Stanley Jazz Messengers were notified by Downbeat Magazine that their recorded performance tied them with Sutter M.S. (Folsom, Ca.) for #2 in the U.S. For the past forty-two years, DOWNBEAT has sponsored the Student Music Awards. Since 2002, Stanley has won several individual solo and group awards. We appreciate the volunteer and LPIE Instructors who have worked smart and hard to make the Jazz Messengers what they are today.
Friday, April 28 - Guitarist MIMI FOX will play for periods 4 & 5 (10:55am to 12:30pm. Performing with MIMI will be Brian Ho on the Hammond B-3 Organ, and Alan Hall on Drums.
The entire community is invitied to this extraordinary concert. MIMI FOX is considered by most knowledgeable Jazz Musicians to be one of the top Jazz Guitarists in the U.S. She plays everything from the Beatles to Bebop and beyond! This concert is being sponsored by an Anonymous Donor to the Generations in Jazz Foundation.
My deepest gratitude goes to Mrs. Liz Brummel and all of the Lafayette Elementary Music Teachers and LPIE Instructors. Without them, there would not be the quality of Music that we enjoy at Stanley.
