Dear Jazz Students and Parents in ZERO Period JAZZ,
Stanley Jazz Messengers 2015-2016 (as of Sept. 6, 2015)
With the exception of the Sax section, auditions are complete. The only Jazz Musicians who need to attend this Tuesday, Sept. 8 are all saxophonists interested in playing with the Jazz Messengers (the advanced group). We will be sight reading music that is in the Jazz Band section of SMART MUSIC. We will also be improvising (making up our own solos). If Mr. Murzyn gave you something to prepare, bring it. If not, don’t worry.
Everyone not in the Messengers should be at the first Crusader rehearsal on Thursday, Sept. 10. Do arrive five to ten minutes early so that you can comfortably start with me at 7:20am.
On Tuesday, Sept., 8, all Jazz Messengers should pick up the first three songs that we are rehearsing. Friday, Sept. 11, is our first rehearsal. You should have downloaded recordings from the Internet and learned your parts. Jazz Messenger rehearsals are to learn to play together, NOT to learn your part.
Jazz Messenger Trombones:
Krishna and Thomas split lead and 2nd. (That means they both have copies of and learn both parts).
Matthew plays 3rd
Harry plays 4th or bass trombone
Nate is 1st alternate. That means that if someone else is late or doesn’t learn the part, you will be asked to join the Messengers and the other player will be moved to the Crusaders.
Jazz Messenger Trumpets:
Evan and Tommy split lead and 2nd. (That means they both have copies of and learn both parts).
Ellie plays 3rd
Terran plays 4th.
Walter is 1st alternate. That means that if someone else is late or doesn’t learn the part, you will be asked to join the Messengers and the other player will be moved to the Crusaders.
At present, there are three pianists, two guitarists, two bass players, and three drummers. In the event that any of them are late to rehearsals and/or can’t play their part, they will be replaced.
That decision is solely made by Mr. Athayde.
With a smaller Jazz Messenger band, you will be responsible for your part. This group should attain at a level of the top bands in the U.S.
IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTION ABOUT YOUR JAZZ BAND PLACEMENT, SEE MR. ATHAYDE. (Mr. Villacorta is the Jazz Liason and handles logistics for trips and other important communications. For any musical questions, see Mr. Athayde).
